Field Note 001: Why the first build is a small tank
NS-001 is a column tank with a pepper plant on top. Here is why the first build is small, wet and mostly not electronic.
The first planned build is NS-001: a small column tank turned into a mini aquaponics loop. A tiny pump, a basket of clay pebbles, a pepper plant on top, small fish and shrimp below.
It is first because it is small. In a small loop, a mistake shows up quickly and costs little. It is also first because it keeps living things alive before any sensor gets involved. The order matters: learn the loop, then measure it.
There is a second reason. Very large hands and a very narrow tank is a good test of patience.
The plan and the open questions are on the project page. The parts list will be published with the build. There are no results to report, because it has not been built.
